What is Probate?
When someone dies, “probate” is a court process for establishing who the legal heirs are and how the estate is handled. This includes collecting a deceased person’s property, called the “estate,” and distributing it to the heirs. In most instances, estates have to go through this process. In Bell County and contiguous counties, if someone dies with a will, that will must be probated within four years.
At the Pearson Law Firm we help administer the deceased person’s estate through the probate administration process. We will prepare the notices to potential heirs and creditors who may have claims against the estate. We will shepherd the estate representative through the complicated process. We will keep the potential heirs and creditors informed every step of the way.
If a person dies without leaving a will, in most cases an administrator must be appointed to handle the distribution of the estate. We can help the administrator get bonded and deal with claims against the estate and creating and filing an inventory for the estate property. The probate process doesn’t have to be long, complicated, and expensive. Our experiences attorneys take the load off the client and truly make the process as painless as possible at every step.
